Week 6

Date Objective/ Procedure Handouts/ Labs Homework
10/6 The Lens- Day 2 TSWBAT

1. Use the Foss Brain & Senses Website Multimedia to see how lenses to project images using radiant, reflected, and transmitted light, and discover that the projected image is inverted and reversed. See how concave and convex lenses work to improve vision problems.

2. Write a science journal entry about how light travels through a lens, making sure to include how convex and concave lenses work.

3. Define vision vocabulary words in notes section: refraction, angle of incidence, angle of refraction, lens, focus, principal focus (focal length), image, projected image, image focus distance,  myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism

NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.5

 Lenses and Light

10/7 Vision Stations- Day 2 TSWBAT

1. Investigate and measure peripheral vision and field of view for 3 qualities of vision: motion, color identification, and reading.

2. Explore a variety of magnifiers to discover the properties of lenses

3. Use color boxes to investigate color vision and understand that photoreceptors (rods and cones) are sensitive to different aspects of light

NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.5

11.  Overview Nervous System/ Control & Coordination

Read p. 600-608 (Ch.21) Life Science Text: The Nervous System

11.  Overview Nervous System/ Control & Coordination

10/8 Vision Stations- Day 3 TSWBAT

Read p. 600-608 (Ch.21) Life Science Text: The Nervous System

11.  Overview Nervous System/ Control & Coordination

10/9 The Retina-1 TSWBAT

1. Review the structure and function of the Retina by taking notes and reviewing the Vision Stations Lab

2.Reading Brain & Senses: The Retina p. 36-38 &  Field of Vision p. 39 to explore the retina and peripheral vision

NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.5

12.Retina Notes/Retina Review

Pop Quiz

Finish: Vocabulary Words: 10. Lenses and Light using the glossary
10/10 The Retina-2 TSWBAT

1. Review the structure and function of the Retina by taking notes and reviewing the Vision Stations Lab

2.Review the retina, peripheral vision, blind spots, lenses, color vision, vision problems, lenses with a cooperative group game.

NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.5

Test Wednesday: The retina, peripheral vision, blind spots, lenses, color vision, vision problems, lenses & light, structure & function of the eye: study binder pages 7-12 & notes
