Week 26

Date Objective/ Procedure Handouts/ Labs Homework
3/4

Where Does Food Comes From
1.
Read p. 14-16 in Populations and Ecosystems Resources Book- Where does food come from? to understand where the food we eat comes from and how the
Energy is passed from the Sun to Producers and Consumers

2. Act out the lifecycle of a tree to better understand the birth, growth, development, reproductions, and then eventual death and decomposition starts the lifecycle again

3. Demonstrate the needs of trees/ plants and how competition alters how much of the necessities for life are available (Water, Sun, CO2)
NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.6

2.

 Notebooks Due

Studyisland Assignment #8 Energy

Balance this equation:CO2 + H2O --->C6H12O6 + O2
* Does this equation follow the law: Atoms cannot be created or destroyed- if not do something about it!
3/5 Energy Transfer

1.Science Journal: Write the Equation for Photosynthesis- think- The gas we give plants + a very important liquid + the big ball of fire in the sky ----> A very sweet food + A very important gas plants give us

2.Learn that photosynthesis is the process that produces new energy-rich biomass called food and that cellular respiration is the opposite reaction that takes place in the mitochondria to release Energy from food

3. Discuss and demonstrate how the Sun transfers Energy (Energy Transfer) in the form of light and heat

NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.5 & 5.6

35. Energy for Life- Sec 3 Content Mastery/ Reinforcement

Read text p.64-91 Complete:

1. Prepare for NJ ASK by using the the Studyisland.com website to review  Science lessons

2. Take practice tests Review Standard 5.3 Energy & Matter in Ecosystems

3. Prepare for NJ ASK by using the the Studyisland.com website to review  Science lessons and take practice tests Review Standard 5.4 Light, Heat, EnergyElectricity & Magetism

NJCCCS 5.1 ,5.2 , 5.7

  Studyisland Assignment #8 Energy

3/7

Energy

1.Journal:  1.  What are the 2 forms of Energy that the sun provides?
2.  Is Energy Matter- explain

2.Differentiate between refraction & reflection, Absorption

3. Observe demonstrations of light-

Light- Bill Nye

Light & Waves

Light Multimedia

3. Differentiate between the processes of Photosynthesis, Respiration. & Fermentation- exit question- Multimedia

 Energy Transfer

Studyisland Assignment #8 Energy

Studyisland 3-8 Graded as a test Monday

Energy Transfer

3/8 Snow Day

Studyisland Assignment #8 Energy

Quiz Wednesday Know Equation for Photosynthesis: 6CO2 + 6H2O+ Sun --->C6H12O6 + 6 O2- & reverse for Respiration- determine exothermic or endothermic, reactants, products, whether producers or consumers do process- and where in cell it takes place (mitochondria or chloroplast), types of heat and light energy
