8th Grade Life Science

Week 23

Date Objective/ Procedure Handouts/ Labs Homework
2/11

 Number of Atoms and Elements

1.Complete 33. Cell Processes- Sec 1 Content Mastery/ Reinforcement  to better understand the differences between organic and inorganic compounds

2.  Understand how to figure out the number of atoms and elements in a compound: # of Atoms- count capital letters, # of elements- count subscripts remembering that if there is not subscript then it = 1

3. Practice counting the number of elements and atoms in a compound

NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.6

34. Number of Atoms/ Balancing Equations

Studyisland Assignment #7 Chemistry
33. Cell Processes- Sec 1 Content Mastery/ Reinforcement

2/12

Analyzing Substances-1

1. Practice counting the number of elements and atoms in a compound

2
. Review chemical formulas as symbolic representations for substances and learn that the fundamental building blocks of substances are atoms.

3.Make and analyze representations of particles of familiar substances

NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.6

16. Substances1/ Substances2

Studyisland Assignment #7 Chemistry

2/13 Analyzing Substances-2

1. Science Journal:
Which metal family on the periodic table is the most reactive?
Which family on the periodic table doesn’t react with other elements?
What kind of atoms make up the element Sodium?
Name the most important Inorganic Compound- why is it so important to living things?
What are the 3 phases of matter?

2. Go over 33. Cell Processes- Sec 1 Content Mastery/ Reinforcement  to better understand the differences between organic and inorganic compounds

3.Make and analyze representations of particles of familiar substances

NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.6

Studyisland Assignment #7 Chemistry

Prepare for a test on the Periodic Table, Atoms, subatomic particles, and matter- Study binder p. 30-34

2/14

Chemistry Test 1

1. Demonstrate knowledge of atoms, elements, and compounds on a test: number of atoms, elements, subatomic particles, protons, neutrons, electrons

2. Read "How do Atoms Rearrange" p.63-68 in Chemical Interactions Resources book
