Week 22

Date Objective/ Procedure Handouts/ Labs Homework
2/4 The Periodic Table

1.  Discuss how the Periodic Table is organized according to the properties of elements and increasing atomic number and how Dmitri Mendeleev put the elements in order: Mendeleev Song

2. Color the Periodic Table  and identify the periods (rows) and the different families (columns) and discuss the properties of the elements and how and why they are organized into the different periods and families

3. Read p.4-8 in Chemical Interactions Resources book to understand how Dmitri Mendeleev created the modern day Periodic Table

NJCCCS 5.1  , 5.5, 5.6

32. Cell Processes- Sec 1 Content Mastery/ Reinforcement (back)

Studyisland Assignment #6 Force & Motion

2/5

Periodic Table Practice

1. Discuss the properties of the families or groups on the Periodic Table and how the characteristics change as you increase in atomic number

2.  Complete Periodic Table Practice to review the groups on the Periodic Table and the properties of the elements

3.  Draw an atom showing the protons (+) and neutrons in the nucleus with the electrons (-) in the electron shells: Atomic Musical Chairs

NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.6

Periodic Table Practice

Studyisland Assignment #6 Force & Motion

2/6

Chemistry of Life-1

1. Read p.9-13 in Chemical Interactions Resources book to understand where the Earth elements are found in living things, the ocean, the sky, the universe

2. Complete the paragraph on p. 30. Cell Processes-1 to distinguish between organic and inorganic compounds, elements, and atoms

3. Complete the worksheet: 33. Cell Processes- Sec 1 Content Mastery/ Reinforcement  to better understand the differences between organic and inorganic compounds

NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.6

33. Cell Processes- Sec 1 Content Mastery/ Reinforcement

Studyisland Assignment #6 Force & Motion

2/7

Chemistry of Life-2

1. Finish drawing an atom showing the protons (+) and neutrons in the nucleus with the electrons (-) in the electron shells

2.  Understand how to figure out the number of atoms and elements in a compound: # of Atoms- count capital letters, # of elements- count subscripts remembering that if there is not subscript then it = 1

3. Practice counting the number of elements and atoms in a compound

NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.6
