The Storm Within TSWBAT

1. View a video about a young boy with a degenerative disease that requires the removal of a large part of the brain:  Brain Plasticity Video

2. Answer focus questions about the video to better understand the symptoms, tests, and recovery the boy went through

3. Discuss the brain imaging techniques they used on the boy and the impact the seizures had on his life and write about how their life would be different if they had this condition in their science journal

NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.5

Brain Box Labeling

Quiz Tuesday: The 3 parts of the brain- cerebellum, cerebrum, brain stem, the 4 lobes parietal, frontal, occipital, temporal, the planes- axial, coronal, sagittal, the views- dorsal, ventral, posterior, anterior, EEG data & the Amygdala- use brain boxes to prepare!

Binders Due Wednesday

Brain Quiz -2 TSWBAT

1. Demonstrate knowledge on a quiz:The 3 parts of the brain- cerebellum, cerebrum, brain stem, the 4 lobes parietal, frontal, occipital, temporal, the planes- axial, coronal, sagittal, the views- dorsal, ventral, posterior, anterior, EEG data & the Amygdala! via Quizstar Online

2. Science Journal- explain how creating the brain box helped you prepare for the quiz

3. Write a science journal entry about a Nervous system disorder- describe the condition and what it is like for those who are afflicted with it : Neuroscience For Kids: The Nervous System- will present findings to class

4. Go to: Brain & Senses Website & Play Reaction Timer Game, Memory Game & View Optical Illusions & Brain Games

Reaction Time TSWBAT

1. Students time their reaction to a visual stimuli by catching a piece of paper when it begins to fall.

2. Understand that neurons are the basic cell of the nervous system and to the transmission of messages from neuron to neuron.

3. Journal entry: Describe the reaction time activity and how and you and your group's reaction time improved

NJCCCS 5.1  & 5.5

8. Making and Using The Reaction Timer/ Response Sheet: Sending a Message

21. Section 1 Reinforcement The Nervous System/ Key Terms Control & Coordination

Use Text Ch. 21

11/20

Impulse Relay-1 TSWBAT

1. Distinguish between sensory neurons, interneurons, and motor neurons  as cells that carry messages to and from the brain

2. Act out the neurotransmission of a stimulus/ response message via a simulated pathway and attempt to improve their reaction time

3.Science Journal- Name the 3 types of neurons
